Cardiac Case Study – Bradycardia
80-year-old male with diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and a long history of cardiac disease. The patient was receiving beta blockers to control acute episodes of rapid-onset ventricular tachycardia (VT).
- The patient was being continuously monitored using the Vios Monitoring Program. Within 24 hours of admission, heart rate decreased to 43 beats per minute (BPM)
- Remote monitoring technician verified alarm and called the bedside nurse
- Nurse contacted on-call medical team, who ordered a hold of the beta blocker and adjusted the dose
- Patient recovered, avoiding return to acute care
